march 2024
Welcome March !
March is a transition month. The weather feels confused. Mother Earth is attempting to wake up (or fall asleep depending where you are located) and our bodies may feel heavy from a long winter or too expansive from a busy summer. With all of this change occurring, it begs the question: how do we stay balanced with when so much is in flux around us?
The energy and vibration of the Equinox is the perfect teacher for us during this time. Day and night reach an agreement of equality, the sun and moon move into a rhythm of equanimity, and we are reminded of how nature always finds a way to rebalance.
This month we will explore the concept of equanimity (equanimity is a state of psychological stability and composure which is undisturbed by the experience of or exposure to emotions, pain, or other phenomena that may cause others to lose the balance of their mind - Wikipedia) and how we can channel the power of the equinox to support this in our lives.
As we move through the month, remember that equanimity is not a fixed state. It is a way of being that is fluid with ebb and flow. How quickly we notice that we are mis-aligned with equanimity is the key to doing the things that bring us back into this state of being.
Stability.
Composure.
Balance.
These are the cornerstones of equanimity and our guides for this month’s ritual process.
Until next time, may the Equinox be your guide into the realm of equanimity…

questions for reflection
Name three practices that bring you back into equanimity. Be specific and clear about the things that bring you into balance when you feel mis-aligned.
What does stability look like for you? Consider all the ways stability infuses your life; physically, emotionally, financially, spiritually, and mentally. When do you know or feel that you are in a stable state of being?
What does composure mean to you? What associations (positive/ negative/ neutral) do you have with composure? Were you ever told as a child (or adult) to “compose yourself” and if so what effect did that have on your self expression? See if you can re-frame the act of being composed to one that allows for equanimity AND expression.
Consider how the equinox exemplifies the balance of day/night/dark/light and then moves out of balance during the solstice times. Notice in your life any patterns of balance that occur regularly. Do you also follow a cycle of equanimity that may be rhythmic and predictable?

“Equanimity is the hallmark of spirituality. It is neither chasing nor avoiding but just being in the middle.”

RESOURCE ARTICLE
This is a fantastic article that discusses equanimity with broad perspective and beauty.
“Equanimity is also understood as a mindset, even a skill that we can cultivate. The skill of equanimity is linked to notions such as resilience, emotion regulation, emotional reactivity, mindfulness, cognitive flexibility, and perspective taking. Equanimity understood in that way remains closely related to ancient Stoic ideals.”
