Be lit by the fires of life,
for they are transformative.
Nothing touched by the flame,
ever remains the same.

 fire walks

Walking and dancing across the hot coals of a sacred fire has been practiced for thousands of years. Since the dawn of time, people have known and honored the element of fire as one which transforms, purifies, and connects us to the spirit world.

Fire offers us an experience of transcendence as an element ever present during initiations and ceremony. Accessible to people from all walks of life, fire walking is a tool for personal empowerment and spiritual communion. From small private groups, to teens in need of a healthy rite of passage, or organizations looking to build more authentic relationships between its employees, fire walking has found its place in modernity.

 what is Fire Walking ?

Fire walking sounds exactly like what it is: walking across hot coals. There is a beautiful mystery that unfolds in the hours leading up to the walk. Building and lighting the pyre, making offerings, and becoming clear on your intentions for walking begins this unfolding. As this happens, the group begins to shift into a community oriented mindset. We come together to allow our vulnerabilities (and thus our strengths) to be seen in full view as we compassionately support one another by connecting to the humanness in each of us. As the fire begins to die down and the coals are spread in the form of a pathway, quiet contemplation sets in. Everyone becomes focused on the task ahead: making it to the other side.

"The inner fire is the most important thing mankind possesses."

—Edith Sodergran

Believe it or not, we have all fire walked before. Every single one of us. We have all gone through difficult times, life transitions, radial change…

Fire transforms. If we remember each of our life’s big challenges and the resulting change, then we all know fire, we’ve all walked through fire. The question is, was it done with intention or not? Was it a ceremony in your life or an utter mess? Community fire walking gives us an opportunity to re-wire some of those past transitions and to embrace a broader perspective. It allows each of us another chance to go through the fire, this time with clear intention and support, to make it to the other side.

sundoor trained & elementally initiated

A common question I often receive is about my qualification to lead Fire Walks. In 2015 I studied with my long time mentor, Elder Ann Sousa, to become a Certified Sundoor Fire Walk Instructor. Already initiated into the element of fire as an Elemental Diviner through the Dagara tradition, learning how to lead others into the fire was a natural next step. During my week-long training, I deepened my relationship with this element while learning leadership techniques and safety protocols for holding safe and sacred firewalking space.

I am honored to be your guide in this process…
